Even though the retractable baby gate is not as well known as some of the other gates for sale, it is a wonderful safety gate to have in the home. It can be used just about anywhere and one of the best features about this gate is the fact that it can roll up and be almost completely hidden.
The gate is also sometimes referred to as the roller gate because it rolls up like a window shade only vertically. This gate is very flexible and can be used in a narrow space or an oversized doorway. Since they are so flexible they should not be used at the top of the stairs. Most roller gates are made out of mesh material which is definitely not strong enough or safe enough to keep a running child from falling down the stairs. A better alternative for the top of the stairs would be a safety gate made of metal, wood or heavy duty plastic.
Although not every gate has the same dimensions, most will fit any doorway. The measurements range from anywhere from forty two to seventy two inches wide and are thirty to thirty four inches high. Since the gate retracts like a shade it is a great fit for doorways with odd measurements or doorways at a funny angle.
This gate is a great choice for small spaces. Most gates require a lot of room to swing the gate or move the gate to pass through. Since the gate rolls up out of the way, it requires no extra room to open or close.
Probably the best feature of this gate is the fact that when it is rolled up it is almost completely un-noticeable. This is a great bonus for families who like to keep their home looking like a home instead of a house taken over by babies and baby items. Because this gate rolls up out of sight it is easily put away for guests. Another plus is the fact that when this gate is not in use it does not have to be stored in a closet, stowed behind the coach or left out in the open, leaning against a wall and such. This leaves more space in the closet or other storage area for other items, which is a benefit for every home.
The one downfall of this gate is that it takes a little time and a few tools to install. There are a few brackets that have to be mounted for this gate to work correctly but it is certainly time well spent.
